OH&SMS Auditor/Lead Auditor Conversion

You need this course if

  • you have already successfully completed an Auditor/Lead Auditor training course in another discipline and want to extend your auditing competence to include occupational health and safety management systems and ISO 45001.
  • you want to satisfy the formal Auditor/Lead Auditor Conversion training requirements for IRCA auditor certification.

You will learn

  • the purpose of an occupational health and safety management system and the business and societal benefits of improving occupational health and safety performance.
  • the Plan-Do-Check-Act framework with regards to ISO 45001.
  • the interrelationship between organisational context, management responsibility, OH&SMS planning, occupational health and safety policy, risks and opportunities, operational control, performance evaluation, management review and continual improvement.
  • essential terminology to help you interpret and audit ISO 45001 requirements defined in ISO 45001.
  • the difference between compliance obligations and conformance with ISO 45001.
  • how to plan, conduct, report and follow up an audit of an occupational health and safety management system to establish conformity (or otherwise) with ISO 45001 and in accordance with ISO 19011 (and ISO 17021 where appropriate).
  • to apply your existing auditor knowledge and skills to plan, conduct and report environmental system audits.
  • how to evaluate objective evidence and correctly identify conformance and non-conformance with ISO 45001 requirements.
  • to report findings accurately against the requirements of ISO 45001, write and grade non-conformity reports and evaluate proposals for corrective action.

You will need

  • to have successfully completed a CQI & IRCA certified five-day Auditor/Lead Auditor course, or accepted equivalent if you wish to register as a OH&SMS Auditor or Lead Auditor with IRCA*. If you do not meet the above criteria, you need to attend our five day CQI & IRCA certified OH&SMS Auditor/Lead Auditor course
  • knowledge and understanding of ISO 45001and experience of auditing
  • ideally to have attended our ISO 45001 Appreciation and Interpretation course
  • to understand the basics of how organisations work and the role of top management.
  • to have good knowledge of ISO 45001 and possess knowledge of occupational health and safety management principles and concepts, including: the concept of occupational health and safety development; the purpose of an initial review as the basis for establishing an occupational health and safety management system where none currently exists; evaluation of activities, products and services in order to establish the occupational health and safety hazards associated with routine and non-routine operating conditions, emergency situations and accidents; occupational health and safety legislation and how legal compliance forms part of an occupational health and safety management system, typical methods for evaluation of the occupational health and safety hazards identified and how their ranking influences operational control and priorities for improvement.
  • Complete approximately 2 hours of pre course work prior to attending the course.
  • * for those that have not satisfactorily completed a CQI & IRCA certified (or acceptable alternative) Auditor/Lead Auditor training course in another discipline then you are unlikely to successfully complete this three-day course.
